Homemade Pizza!
I love pizza and so does my family. Three out of five of us get diarrhea the next day after eating delivery pizza from the major chains. I am not sure what they add to it that disagrees with us but it does. I have decided to make my own!
I start with my Oster Bread Maker that I have had now for 15 years. I love making bread and have found that using the bread maker makes my life much easier since I started my own business.
I used the following recipe from the Oster handbook but I changed it up a bit:
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
3 cups Gold Medal® Better for Bread™ flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 teaspoons regular active dry yeast
OR
2 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast or
quick-acting active dry yeast
DIRECTIONS:
- Place all Dough ingredients in a bread pan in the order listed. Press SELECT until the number "9" is displayed indicating the dough cycle. Press START.
- Move the oven rack to the lowest position. Heat oven to 400°. Grease 2 cookie sheets. Divide dough in half.
Pat each half into a 12-inch circle on a cookie sheet with floured fingers. Spread with favorite toppings.
- Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until the crust is light brown. 2 pizza crusts.
I added 2 tsp of McCormick Perfect Pinch Garlic and Herb Salt Free Seasoning and 1 tsp dried oregano and ½ cup of Kraft Italian Grated Cheese. Then I ran the Select “9” on the bread maker.
I cooked one pound of Tennessee Pride Mild Sausage Roll with ½ pound of ground beef. (I add the hamburger to make the sausage milder.) I add two medium diced onions. I cook this on medium heat until browned. I drain the fat and let set to the side.
I spray my pizza pans with Pam. (just so the crust does not stick to the pan.) I stretched the dough to the edge of the pan. (BTW the above recipe makes two 12-inch pizzas.) Once both pans are covered with the dough, I add a store bought pizza sauce, thinly. I then added Italian cheese, about 1 cup per pizza. I then sprinkle this with dried Parmesan cheese. I added 1 package of 50+ pepperoni packages to both the pizzas on the cheese.
I then added the sausage-hamburger mixture to the top of the pizza. ) You can also add toppings to your desire. (Add to your liking!) I like mine very thick! I then top the pizza with mozzarella and cheddar cheese to my liking. I use McCormick's Perfect Garlic to sprinkle on the top before baking.
I bake the pie in a 400-degree oven for 18 minutes. I start checking on it at the 15-minute mark and decide by the eye if the pie is done. I pull the pie out of the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before I cut it into slices. This helps slicing the pie.
Everyone enjoys this pizza and there are no health problems! I suggest that you add whatever topping that you desire. Suggestions: Add mushrooms, olives or substitute chicken for the sausage and beef.
