Cleaning the Microwave
I tend to keep Spring clean for the entire Spring. I do a little then do more another day. I think it takes the mundaneness of the task out of the equation and my mind does not really think I am cleaning, which is a chore that I hate!
For the most part, I am always wiping out my microwave. We do not use it often only to reheat meals, to thaw or to pop popcorn. But for some strange reason there is always the one spot that looks nasty. I hate sharing the inside of my microwave with you but I am! It is the right hand corner that I always tend to leave unclean and it gets nasty. I do not mean to do it but I do, then when it comes to really scrubbing it that is what I have to do… scrub! Nothing seems to get it clean.
This time, I thought I would try a couple things that I read. I put 1 cup of water in the microwave and heated it for 3 minutes. I let it sit for about 5 minutes then removed the water and the turntable to wipe it out. I was shocked it came out that easy! It was so easy with no scrubbing!!! The power of steam works every time. I have tried my clothes steamer on my flat-top stove too. That will be another blog :)
I figured since that worked so well I would try the lemon and baking soda to remove the popcorn smell that seems to linger in there.
Ingredients:
6 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 cup lemon juice
Put in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 3 to 4 minutes. Open the microwave door and leave it open for a couple of hours.
This worked like a charm! The whole house smelled lemony-fresh!
