WOW! Have you seen Google's car?

When my mom used to tell me that it was possible that in my lifetime I may see cars fly, I thought she was nuts. I did think that it would be cool to be Judy Jetson and who doesn’t dream of having Rosie! Technology today has gotten so sophisticated that I am starting to believe it is possible to see that flying car!

On October 9, 2010 on the official blog of Google, the news was released! Google has been driving around California in a robotic car. They have developed the software needed to maneuver automobiles without the driver. I bow down to the programmers that had the painstaking job of developing this software. This is an amazing undertaking but I could only think of a couple companies that could stand the challenge. Koodles to you Google!

On their official blog, it reads: “Larry and Sergey founded Google because they wanted to help solve really big problems using technology. And one of the big problems we’re working on today is car safety and efficiency. Our goal is to help prevent traffic accidents, free up people’s time and reduce carbon emissions by fundamentally changing car use.”

Imagine if I were too tired to drive but still needed to get home. This will help me get there without my slow reactions causing an accident. According to Google, I will still having the option to take the controls back over if I wanted to just as easily as turning off the cruise control. This technology is wonderful. Think of the lives that this will save from the drunks that get behind the wheel! “According to the World Health Organization, more than 1.2 million lives are lost every year in road traffic accidents. We believe our technology has the potential to cut that number, perhaps by as much as half.”

“While this project is very much in the experimental stage, it provides a glimpse of what transportation might look like in the future thanks to advanced computer science. And that future is very exciting.” This is a great future for my children and me if this research continues. I look forward to reading about the research results. Good luck to the technicians and employees of Google. Striving to make the world a safer place should be the mission statement of every company in the world.
