Walking the Dog

Walking the Dog

Every day I see a couple and their two children walk their dog down the road. They are a young couple with a girl about 10 years old and a boy around 8 years old. I never see this family any other time. It is strange. I never see them drive to work or to the store. But I could almost set my watch to this family walking their dog down the road.

As they pass the house, the kids are skipping along with the dog and the parents are keeping up the pace with smiles on their faces. They never disturb the neighborhood or let their dog into others’ yards. They just walk and converse with their children.

When I was a child we always sat at the table and ate dinner. This was our family time. We talked about our day and enjoyed each other or sometimes not but we were together. Today it is different. It seems that families are too busy to take the time to concern themselves with family matters.

At least that is what I was thinking until I thought about the family that passes my window every day.  They are never too busy to spend time with their children. Maybe that is what is wrong with troubled children today. No one stops to talk to them and be concerned about their day and what they have been doing! Each family needs to make time to spend together. Either at the dinner table or as you walk the dog; making time for family could save the family.
